We have spent the last few episodes discussing how teachers and students can be using and creating videos and podcasts as learning tools. In Season 1 Episode 11 of the REALity Check podcast, we run through five other ways students and teachers can create and some questions to consider when planning.
- Use tools like Canva, Lucidpress, Piktochart and S’more to create infographics and other digital texts like brochures, magazines, newsletters, posters and social media posts.
- Meet the students where they are at, on social media, and have them produce posts or campaigns to demonstrate learning and share their voice. Also consider incorporating new social media trends to help student reach learning targets like Texting Story.
- Up your in-class student presentation game by finding alternate locations and inviting authentic audiences to view student work. Encourage students to use tools like Slides Carnival, Canva, Google Slides Q & A, and NearPod to produce more professional presentations.
- Can’t bring authentic audiences to the students in person? Use tools like Google Hangouts and Skype to live chat with authentic audiences.
- Do some research and figure out how professionals in your fields are creating and sharing their work publically. Encourage your students to investigate these creations and tools used to create and have them utilize these tools to create their own works. Get authentic and relevant by having students engage with authentic tools.
Here are a few questions to consider when planning to have students create…
- Does the use of the technology add to the authenticity of the experience? Are they working like professionals in the field?
- How long will it take the students to learn how to effectively use the technology? Are the outcomes and improved engagement worth that time?
- Will the front-loading of how to use the technology help them later in the class, in other classes, or in their lives outside of school?
